Some of the many benefits of massage therapy are listed below:
1. Tension release: promotes relaxation and tension release for improved mobility and better all-round performance.
2. Flexibility: sustains and encourages range of motion; reducing risk of injury.
3. Injury rehabilitation: supports the healing process of soft tissues to regain function after injury or surgery.
4. Post-surgery: encourages blood circulation to accelerate recovery.
5. Mental health: proven stress & anxiety relieving massage techniques.
A sports massage may cause some discomfort, both during the session and after. However, treatment should not feel "painful" and result in the client having to tense up to bear the discomfort. Whilst some discomfort is completely normal and to be expected, an important balance must be achieved to not diminish the purpose of the massage, that is to reduce muscle tension and aid recovery.
At JD x PMT, we regularly check in with clients regarding pressure levels to ensure client comfort is maintained and a duty of care is upheld. Treatments are also adjusted based on client feedback throughout the session.
Many clients seek our services for multiple reasons, some of which are listed below:
Weekly musculoskeletal health and well-being maintenance.
Feeling aches and/or a build up of tension in muscles or joints.
A recent injury or chronic condition causing ongoing discomfort.
Management of stress or anxiety.
Experiencing a decrease in performance capabilities.
The answer to this question depends on the individual lifestyle of each client. The more physically active you are, the more massage therapy will benefit your musculoskeletal health by managing built-up muscle tension and the mental and physical demands of an active lifestyle. For example, a professional athlete who trains intensely multiple times a week will require more frequent treatment than a casual gym goer.
We recommend the following as a guideline:
A performing artist, athlete, or regular gym goer who is training intensely, multiple times per week, would benefit from a minimum of two weekly massage treatments.
An economically active individual who is a 'casual' gym goer would benefit from one weekly or fortnightly treatment.
